Can I be honest with you today? I’m struggling. I’m struggling to understand how the world works and why people do what they do. I’m struggling in prayer, not because I’m doubting God’s ability, but because I’m acutely aware of our desire to blow it and never look back. Does anyone else have those days? The things I continue to come back to are these important truths: prayer is warfare and the Word is our anchor.
Prayer matters and makes a difference, not because we always see the end result but because we are fighting a battle we don’t see with our physical eyes. We pray because we find divine power to demolish strongholds. We partner with the Father in contending for His Kingdom to come. I could almost hear the clanging of swords in prayer today; the iron on iron as I battled for a situation that looks bleak and unyielding. Don’t be mistaken friends, the Enemy is prepared to fight hard but the harder I fought, the stronger my resolve to fight because I don’t want the Enemy to win this battle. I’m believing for a redemption story that will put him to shame and bring life to countless other hopeless situations. I will brandish my sword in prayer and I won’t back down because I know that prayer matters. It matters more than I can even imagine.
The beauty of warring is that we aren’t sent into the battle unprepared. He gave us His Word to stand on and to contend with. After the smoke has died down and the situation still appears unchanged, I have to choose to cling to His Word. The Word is our life. It is our bread. It is the wisdom we seek. Delight in His Word. Devour it. Long for it. Write it on the tablets of your heart. We live in a world that is chaos but the Word of God brings peace.
Take heart today, stay in His Word, stay faithful to prayer, and you will be strengthened and encouraged, even when the world around you seems exactly the opposite. Fight on, fellow sojourners. Our God is always at work.
